Had a heck of a trout bite throught the fall and winter, 50 fish days (4 hr trip) were common in November and again in early April, both specs and weakfish. We fished a lot more inshore (river) during this time frame than offshore. A lot of reds, trout, weakfish, drum, and flounder with a few sheepshead thrown in for good measure. The fun fish ie. ladyfish, jacks and bluefish have been more than abundant this spring.
On the offshore scene there have been large catches of black seabass (all released, season closed), red snapper (all released, season closed though we had a 3 day season back in Sept. '12 and wacked them pretty hard). We had a very good run of big (to 65#) black drum offshore on the full moon of March '13 and Apr '13 with some 30 to 50# redfish being caught on the inshore wrecks as well.
I'm really looking forward to this season as the water temp warms up. We're hearing of catches of cobia on the beaches with the manta rays and bait pods just starting to make their spring apperance and that is just the beginning. As the water temps reach the mid 70's we'll start to see the kings and amberjacks show on the artificial reefs and then it's "GAME ON".
I look forward to fishing with you.
