kids are kings (and queens) Offshore (20 to 35 miles off)
Report:
I ran the Pirate King (a 48' Viking) for the owner yesterday, this was the first trolling trip any local boat had tried so far this spring. It was a 6 hour trip and Pirate King cruises at 24 knots thus allowing me to get to the 90 to 100 ft depths 20 miles out.The first line out was a deep line on a planer and as the second line, a surface line with a ballyhoo, went out the first went off with a kingfish about 6 #s. Before we could get all 6 lines in the water we had a 15# bonita (little tunny) and another kingfish. It went pretty much like this for the first 2 1/2 hours then someone turned off the switch. When early or late season fish quit biting it's like someone turning off a light switch. Not bad for the first trolling trip of the season, we ended with 3 kings, 6 bonitas and a few missed strikes. Two strikes were surface and all the rest were on the planer/spoon combination. It's getting time to break out the live bait rigs and warm up the live well for some light tackle action. Until next trip, Capt. Guy
