Report: This was Austins first trip offshore (in the Atlantic, anyway) at 10, he has fished a bit in the Gulf with his uncle and dad and got onto a good bluefish bite only last week over there. His first fish here, after catching bait, was a tail hooked 15# bonita. These things will give you a fit when they are hooked in the mouth, tail hooked I've seen them wip two grown men. With a little help from dad and a little judicious boat handling (I chased this fish for a while) we got a hand on his tail, unhooked and released him to have fun with another angler. On to other things, we started catching kings. We ended catching 10 with two releases at boatside, one getting cut up by a 'cuda (all we got to the boat were gills and lips) and 7 in the boat. We moved into the beach with an hour and a half to go to try our luck with a smoker. No go there. There were pogies in large pods all over North Beach from the North Bar to the Captain's house, from the beach out to 50 feet of water. I've never seen this much bait hold in this area with no bites. Well that's fishing. No trips on the sched for the weekend yet, so I'll report after the next one. 'Till then, Capt. Guy
